Organized by the Association of Kosovo Municipalities with the support of GIZ, the Mayors of Municipalities are conducting a study visit in Slovenia.
The purpose of this visit is to closely acquaint themselves with experiences in the field of intermunicipal cooperation for integrated solid waste management.
During this visit, the delegation of Mayors initially had a meeting with the Association of Slovenian Municipalities to get a close look at the framework conditions for Intermunicipal Cooperation (IMC) in Slovenia.
This study visit aims to gain experiences that are most relevant and applicable to Kosovo, with a particular focus on exchanging best practices in intermunicipal cooperation among Slovenian municipalities in common decision-making processes and overcoming challenges.
Furthermore, the focus of these experiences is also taking steps towards IMC and the institutional, administrative, and financial structure of IMC, as well as getting a closer look at how the intermunicipal waste management cooperation/system functions in the field.
The delegation of Municipal Mayors, led by Chairman Mr. Agim Aliu, met with the Deputy Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Mr. Dejan Crnek, where discussions were held regarding the processes and mechanisms related to IMC and the management of Public Waste Companies.
During this study visit, the local government delegation from Kosovo also visited the Regional Waste Management Center in Ljubljana, had meetings with the municipalities that cooperate in IMC, and visited modern waste recovery facilities through mechanical-biological treatment of waste.
