The Association of Kosovo Municipalities (AKM) established today the Collegium of Officials for Gender Equality, consisting of the Municipal Officials for Gender Equality of the Municipalities of Kosovo, members of the Association.
Executive Director Mr. Sazan Ibrahimi addressed the collegium, who congratulated them by wishing them success in their work and emphasizing the importance of establishing this important sub-sectoral mechanism within the AKM, which as such had been requested to be established by the request of municipal officials for gender equality.
The Collegium was also addressed by Mrs. Ylva Sahlstrand, Deputy Head of Development from Sida, the main supporter and donor of this activity, who also congratulated the members of the Collegium and encouraged them to work as hard as possible using their long experience in this field, to reflect on what has been achieved so far and what work awaits them in the future which from a global perspective, Kosovo could be an excellent model, emphasized Mrs. Sahlstrand.
On the occasion of the constitution of the Collegium, the Gender Equality Officers elected its chairmanship consisting of seven (7) members, ensuring geographical inclusivity, and elected through a unanimous vote the Chairperson of the Collegium, Mrs. Premtime Preniqi – from the Municipality of Pristina and Deputy Chairperson Mr. Alban Gashi – from the Municipality of Rahovec.
In this first constitutive meeting, members of the Collegium raised several issues and challenges that they consider a priority and that they hope to address through the Collegium, such as: greater opportunities for coordination, communication and cooperation with the central level, involvement in drafting of Laws and Strategies with interest and empowerment which they hope to achieve through this Collegium.
