Under the organization of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities and INDEP and with the support of GIZ and NALAS, a Conference was organized regarding the Project “Integration of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals”.
This conference was supported and greeted with their speeches by Mr Getoar Mjeku, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship, Ms Fatmire Kollçaku – Council for Sustainable Development, Ms Maria Suokko – Permanent Representative of UNDP / UN Acting Coordinator for Development – Kosovo , Mr David Oberhuber, Director of GIZ for Kosovo and Northern Macedonia, Mr Joachim Roth – EU Officer – Network of Associations of Local Authorities in South-East Europe – NALAS, Mr Sazan Ibrahimi – Executive Director of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities and Mr Burim Ejupi, Executive Director, Institute for Development Policy – INDEP.
This national conference was attended by municipal officials and professionals who have worked on the social mapping methodology “Comprehensive Approach” and aim to successfully approximate their municipal social protection plans based on data collected at the local level.
In this meeting concrete results related to the data collection process by thematic groups for a comprehensive approach at the local level and exchanged knowledge were presented, success stories and benefits from the perspective of two municipalities: Vitia/Vitina and Hani i Elezit / Elez Han.
Mechanisms for improving and exchanging data collected at the local level between Kosovo municipalities and central level institutions are also presented in order to improve policy-making towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.
This Conference is part of the cooperation project between the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, GIZ and NALAS who in this context are implementing two regional projects focusing on capacity building of municipalities in the application of the social mapping “Comprehensive Approach” and the process of Localization of SDGs.
The regional project “Social Rights for Vulnerable Groups II” (SoRi II) is implemented in the Western Balkans region and is working at local, national and regional levels in five countries for regional exchange of good practices and capacity building of relevant state and non-state actors in the field of social and human rights and the involvement of voluntary groups.
The project “Regional Learning for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Southeast Europe (especially Northern Macedonia and Kosovo) – SFF Agenda 2030” aims to improve the conditions for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and reporting in the Western Balkans through regional exchange, networking and learning (focusing on Northern Macedonia and Kosovo). Both projects share activities that seek to contribute to the capacity development of the SDGs coordinating bodies at the national level as well as to the support of the municipalities in the development of the capacities for the localization of the SDGs.
The workshop will focus the institutions’ attention on the systematic challenges faced by working groups working for a comprehensive approach and will also enable municipalities to express their concerns about the needs for better coordination in the implementation of national policies and the needs to supplement them with capacity building measures at local and central level.
The conference continued with two discussion panels such as “Social Mapping for a Comprehensive Approach – A Guiding Framework for Data-Based Policy Making at the Municipal Level” and “An Overview of the Challenges of Data Collection at the National Level in Kosovo: How does the lack of quality data affect the proper implementation of Agenda 2030”
This conference will continue tomorrow and is expected to define the Joint Declaration between Municipalities, the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, central institutions and some civil society and economic organizations.
