The President of the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo, Mr. Agim Aliu, has been elected Vice President of NALAS (Network of Associations of Local Authorities in Southeast Europe) in the General Assembly of NALAS, which is being held in Tivar, while Mr. Dusan Raicevic from Montenegro has been elected President.
Representatives of Municipalities and Associations of Local Authorities from all over Southeast Europe are participating in the General Assembly of NALAS, which brings together 15 Associations of Local Authorities from 12 countries of Southeast Europe, of which the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo is one from the founding members of this organization.
The NALAS General Assembly approved the 2023 Annual Reports, finalized the 2024 Work Plan, and debated the specific topics that have been addressed by local authorities from Southeast European countries.
Also, the General Assembly of NALAS has announced the Green Agenda Champions awards as well as debated about the “Convention of Mayors on Energy and Climate – Vision for Southeast Europe”.
The election of the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of NALAS is done on a rotating basis.
Who is NALAS:
NALAS brings together 15 Associations representing approximately 9,000 local authorities, directly elected by more than 80 million citizens of South East Europe. NALAS promotes the process of decentralization, contributes to the process of stabilization and coordination in the region and henceforth contributes to the process of European Integration for the entire region. NALAS initiates and undertakes regional initiatives for its members and helps associations to become stable representatives of local authorities in relation to the central government. NALAS also provides services to local governments for the benefit of citizens in the region, through its Knowledge Center for Local Government Development.
