In the General Assembly of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities that was held today, and which was chaired by the current president of AKM, Mr. Imri Ahmeti, the Board and the new President were elected for the next four-year term.
In this meeting, with a majority of votes and based on the formula according to the Statute of AKM based on local elections of 2021, the new President of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities was elected Mr. Agim Aliu – Mayor of Ferizaj while Deputy Mayor was elected Mr. Imri Ahmeti – Mayor of Lipjan.
Also, the Board members were elected: Mr. Shaqir Totaj – Mayor of Prizren, Mr. Bali Muharremaj – Mayor of Suhareka, Mr. Xhafer Gashi – Mayor of Obiliq, Mr. Sokol Haliti – Mayor of Viti and Mr. Dragan Petkovic – Mayor of Partesh.
Also, the General Assembly of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities by a majority of votes has approved the annual reports for 2021 and plans for 2022.
In this meeting of the Assembly topics of lobbying in the interest of local government in the Republic of Kosovo were discussed.
The mayors requested that the cooperation and dialogue with the Central Government be continued in order to resolve the issues raised by the Municipalities in the interest of their citizens.
After the discussions of the Mayors, the General Assembly of AKM has come up with the following conclusions:
1. To find a solution with the Government regarding the two-year contracts in capital investments and the problems that arise with the increase of prices of various materials
for works in capital projects.
2. The problem with the Fire Department should be addressed through the Law on Local Finances and the AKM should lobby in this direction.
3. Address the problems with stray dogs and in cooperation with the Government address this concern of the Municipalities.
4. Accelerate the execution of subsidies for farmers in agriculture.
5. The supply of essential medicines should be regulated and the MFMCs in the municipalities should be supplied as soon as possible.
6. To make the Board of the Procurement Review Body functional.
7. The Government to assume the obligations arising from the Collective Agreement.
8. Problems with forests will be addressed by the Law on Forests, while the AKM will lobby in this regard.
