The delegation of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities participated in the session “Local Democracy as a Pillar of Peace and Stability in South-East Europe,” held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of NALAS (Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe).
This event is also being held as part of the 47th Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, where Kosovo is represented by the delegation of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, composed of Mr. Agim Aliu – President of AKM, Mr. Imri Ahmeti – Vice President of AKM, and Mr. Sazan Ibrahimi – Executive Director of AKM.
Speaking at this event, the President of NALAS, Mr. Dušan Raičević, stated that “what began with a modest vision—to create a platform for local governments to exchange knowledge and promote democracy and decentralization—has grown into an influential network with significant impact.
Over the past two decades, NALAS has strengthened local government associations, supported EU accession efforts, and provided essential technical assistance to more than 7,000 local governments. Through our Knowledge Centre, regional cooperation, and capacity-building initiatives, we have fostered sustainable, inclusive, and resilient municipalities.”
The Association of Kosovo Municipalities, as a regular member since the establishment of NALAS, has made a valuable contribution to this regional organization by leading numerous working groups and sharing its successful experiences in advocacy and service delivery to the municipalities of Kosovo with other NALAS members.
