The Association of Kosovo Municipalities, in cooperation with the USAID / KESS Project, organized a working meeting to discuss the current process for municipalities to approve the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on roofs, with the aim of simplifying and harmonizing the process.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Kosovo Electricity Supply Security Activity (KESS), is supporting the Government of Kosovo in achieving energy sustainability by expanding and promoting private sector investment in the production of electricity renewable energy for self-consumption. It is also working to address the development of renewable energy sources (RES) by consumers / self-consumers and energy diversification in Kosovo.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Spatial Planning Officers and local companies that deal with this type of business. At the meeting, experiences were exchanged and the challenges that municipalities are facing were presented based on the legislation in force for granting these consents.
Businesses presented procedural obstacles which make the simplest application for the placement of these panels more difficult, which would help in the future especially households for a more sustainable supply of electricity. As a conclusion, it was requested to review the possibilities for a uniform process that will be implemented by all municipalities of Kosovo.
