History
The Association of Kosovo Municipalities (AKM) was established in 2001, following the first democratic post-war local elections in Kosovo. The establishment of the AKM is based on Article 10 of the European Charter of Local Self-Government of the Council of Europe (the right of association). The AKM is a non-profit organization with legal personality that represents the general interests of its members – local authorities in Kosovo. Local authorities become members of the Association following a decision of the Municipal Assembly. The AKM is committed to ensuring the implementation of the principles of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in Kosovo.
